Rallying the support of the Singapore International Foundation (SIF) Arts for Good Fellowship community, Alumni Fellow and Citizen Ambassador (CA) Sherry Soon, alongside her organisation, Be Kind SG, prepared appreciation cards and care packets for staff at Outram Community Hospital (OCH).

Managed by SingHealth Community Hospitals, OCH provides quality person-centred care to elderly patients who require rehabilitative, sub-acute and palliative care. Faced with the COVID-19 pandemic, front liners, as well as many administrative and ancillary staff from the hospital, had to step up to perform additional duties, while exercising extra precaution in minimising transmission risks for their aged patients.

Speaking about her motivation behind this initiative, Sherry shared that, “Be Kind SG aims to inspire acts of kindness and raise the visibility of the less visible communities in our midst. I am grateful to be able to tap on the A4G Fellowship’s community of practice in harnessing the power of the arts to uplift spirits.”

From appreciation cards created to support received from our A4G Fellows, including Alumni Fellow, Loh Sau Kuen, who tapped on the artistic strengths of her trainees from TOUCH Centre for Independent Living in crafting the cards, “we hope these gestures of appreciation would provide some mental relief and moral support to community workers who have been soldiering on quietly for our society,” Sherry added.

It is heartening to know that this initiative has made its impact. Relaying thanks and appreciation to Be Kind SG and the SIF, is OCH’s Community Relations Manager, Wong Peak Sha. “Your kind act has definitely encouraged us to keep going, as with the words of appreciation that have brightened up our day!”

This A4G initiative is supported by SIF’s CA Development Fund, which seeks to enable our Citizen Ambassador community in advancing their roles as agents of positive change.
