Physiotherapy Bachelor Programme Upgrade in Vientiane, Laos

Project aim
To improve the quality of physiotherapy education and the rehabilitative care sector in Laos.

Outcomes

The project augmented the curriculum of the FMT-UHS Bachelor’s programme in Physiotherapy and increased the awareness of the latest physiotherapy methods and treatments. FMT-UHS’s teaching faculty and a core group of 25 Laotian Master Trainers – comprising FMT-UHS members, physiotherapy practitioners, rehabilitation nurses and orthopaedic doctors – were equipped with the skills and knowledge to deliver the enhanced curriculum. The Master Trainers will in turn train at least 30 physiotherapy students annually, thus enabling around 3,600 patients a year to regain some level of physical functioning and reintegrate back into society.

In-field (English Language Teacher) in Vientiane, Laos

Project aim
To improve the English-language proficiency of government officials and diplomats in Laos through an English Course for Laos Government Officials (ELGO) and to provide guidance to the Laotians teachers in English language training methodology and pedagogy.

Outcomes

A review report on “English Language Training for Lao Government Officials”, supported by the British Embassy in Vientiane, concluded that the English language programme conducted at the IFA provided high quality training, achieved superior learning outcomes, and should be regarded as a sustainable ideal model to be emulated by other government agencies.
