The Southeast Asia Partnership for Adaptation through Water (SEAPAW) is an initiative of the Singapore International Foundation, in collaboration with the World Economic Forum.

SEAPAW was officially launched at a dialogue hosted by the SIF, the World Economic Forum, and the Global Commission on the Economics of Water (GCEW) on 19 June 2024. This event was held on the sidelines of Singapore International Water Week 2024.

BE A PART OF SEAPAW

SEAPAW is a premier platform that unites decision-makers across borders and sectors, from whole-of-society stakeholders including Governments, businesses and civil societies to accelerate Southeast Asia’s readiness to adapt to the impact of climate change by focusing on water-related issues.

SEAPAW will galvanise action among stakeholders in support of a shared vision, fostering cross-border projects, and accelerating adaptation financing through public-private-philanthropic models. SEAPAW will focus on growing the community and identifying projects in key areas of interest to drive climate resilience in Southeast Asia. It will also report on the region’s progress in water-related resilience goals and climate adaptation, which will help identify areas of need for further action.

   Organisations participating in SEAPAW can:

Build strong regional networks to foster climate change resilience through water adaptation for agriculture and urban planning, as well as the conservation and restoration of nature.

Develop collaborative alliances to pilot innovative approaches in developing scalable solutions to support local communities.

Drive research and glean valuable insights to explore adaptation through water resources in the region.

Engage with policy makers to shape water adaption strategies in the region.

SEAPAW extends a warm invitation to organisations who are committed to driving change in water adaptation strategies towards climate change resilience to support its mission. Please contact [email protected] to learn more about partnership opportunities.

Background

In its 2024 Global Risks Report, the World Economic Forum lists "Extreme Weather Events" and "Critical Change to Earth Systems" as top global risks for the next decade. The United Nations Environment Programme’s Adaption Gap Report 2023 highlights that global adaptation efforts are insufficient, requiring around $300 billion annually in additional financing to adequately prepare for climate change. These challenges in tackling such critical issues necessitates a unified effort from public, private, and philanthropic sectors to develop and implement sustainable solutions.

The Singapore International Foundation is a firm believer in the power of collective action to address global challenges. By facilitating collaboration between stakeholders across Southeast Asia, SEAPAW tackles pressing water-related concerns resulting from climate change - a threat that demands our collective regional response.

SEAPAW exemplifies SIF's commitment to being a catalyst for change towards a more resilient future for Southeast Asia.

We will continue to build meaningful partnerships to uplift lives.
